Climber's Rock

Class Descriptions

Hatha Yoga

Hatha-meaning 'powertful' is a slower yoga, as compared to Vinyasa. Through the holding of poses/asanas, proper alignment and mindful actions of the body can be found. Hatha Yoga brings balance, strength, and a sense of well-being to the practitioner.

Yoga Flow

Combines breath and movement to create a continuous flow from posture to posture to strengthen and stretch, building a strong foundation for our more advanced flow classes-such as Vinyasa. It is both invigorating and peaceful, suitable for active beginners.

Vinyasa Flow

Vinyasa means "flowing with breath" and "step-by-step process". These classes are dynamic and allow for a fluid transition from posture to posture, while becoming aware of the movement and breath connection. Vigorous sequences can be expected. These classes are creative and unique and change from class to class. Open to all levels.

Yoga for Strength

This is a challenging yet playful class, designed for fit intermediate through advanced level students. Students are guided to approach strength from the core outward, focusing on standing and balancing poses, as well as targeting specific areas each week to increase flexibility. All of this is harmonized by rhythmic deep breathing and humorous, spiritual insights, providing a surprising, fun and invigorating morning!

Yoga for Climbers

In this class, a yogi climber teaches asanas that will build strength and refine balance, concentration and flexibility. Learn relaxation and breathing techniques that will help you conquer mind over matter. Whether or not you've pinnacled the planet's proudest peaks, this sequence will condition your body for optimal performance on the rock.

Yoga for Athletes

A class focused on areas that athletes tend to overwork. This includes hamstrings and shoulders as well as balance and strengthening poses. With that being said, you do not need to be an Olympic athlete to attend the classes.

Flow and Chill

This class combines dynamic movement with longer holds in deeper postures. This class is about balancing effort with ease. A well-rounded yoga practice is balanced by combining the Yang (flow) active aspect of our nature with our receptive Yin (chill) qualities, creating a deep integrated practice. Starting with pranayama (breath) and leading into Yang we will explore energizing and heat-building flows (inspired by Vinyasa yoga). We will then slip into Yin by exploring long slow holds (inspired by Yin yoga), releasing connective tissue, opening the joints and enhancing energy flow and distribution within the body. This class will have you sweating and relaxing. Experience the balance of both!

Pilates Essentials

For those new to Pilates, this class is your stepping stone to enjoy the many different classes The Studio has to offer. This class will give you the building blocks to enable you to find movement free of tension. You will learn how to (re) awaken the muscles of your core system (not just the abs), the one located around your pelvis and waist, and will tone your legs and arms while improving your flexibility. After 10 classes, you will feel stronger and will have developed more body awareness so that you can explore different levels safely.

Pilates Level I

Level I, is the next level after foundations/essentials. Learn how to both move and stabilize from your center. This class is designed to help beginner participants to challenge their core and build more overall strength before moving to a more challenging level. Develop precision, control, endurance and awareness as you still integrate proper core mechanics into all postures.

Pilates Level II

Intermediate, where mastery of the Pilates method takes place. As in life, you core is in constant movement that you are aware of it or not (like in breathing). Level II is another fun level to improve coordination, movement and strength so that your body can respond with effectively in your day to day life. In this class, you will use bands, weighted chi-balls, and the fitness circles to keep your core in constant state of activation. You will discover the different degrees of strength required to achieve mat movements in a dynamic way. Ideal for those looking to cross train (climbers, runners, and golfers in particular).

Pilates Level III

This class will challenge you to build overall body strength. This class is designed for the intermediate and advance participants who want to challenge their core at every turn. Improve strength, flexibility and mobility with precision, control and endurance as you still integrate proper core mechanics into all postures. This level will not address injuries.

Pilates Flow

Find greater fluidity, balance, stability and strength as you move through a invigorating flow of pilates exercises and yoga inspired movement. Release excess tension as you build greater strength in the body.

Pilates for Climbers and Athletes

It's winter time, the time to take some outdoor activities like climbing, biking, running, tennis, and golfing inside. Cross train during the down season or condition your body for the upcoming seasonal activities. It's time for skiing, snowboarding, skating or playing hockey. This class will bridge Pilates to your favourite physical activity by addressing the proper body biomechanics underlying the many movements necessary to perform any sports. Come develop a new set of skills. Work on your entire body not just specific muscles groups. Learn how Pilates can improve your climbing. Improve your breathing function, alignment, core strength and most importantly prevent injuries from happening to you.

Note:

Previous Pilates experience or Essentials and/or Level I class experience is a MUST to attend the intermediate or advance level.
