Brooke is a life long student of practicing yoga in all different forms, especially when it involves being outdoors! Her passions for movement and the environment have taken her on many adventures including guiding Yoga Canoe trips and Yoga and Snowshoe adventures in northern Ontario, guiding beachfront sessions at EcoYoga Farms in South America, and doing sun salutations in Ecology parks near you! A certified Hatha Instructor since 2007, she brings love, passion, and creativity to her teaching. Since introduced to the Anusara method 5 years ago, Brooke has been devoted to re-educating her body, practice, and approach to life, based on the delightful influence of Anusara and the teachings of John Friend. Brooke's classes offer a playful invitation to align with nature and rock with Shakti in a magically transformative, all inclusive, life-affirming practice.
When not in the studio, you may find her dancing, hula hooping, climbing, camping, paddling, gardening, or just about anything else you can think to do on the Earth's terrain. Brooke is also a Reiki practitioner and student of the Tantrik arts and sciences at Mattamayura Institute in California. Connection is Brooke's daily focus; to herself, her friends, students, and nature. Jai Ma!
When I first came to yoga I never would have guessed what a transformation it would bring about in my life; how it would change my relationships, my career, and how I value and utilize time. It wasn't that yoga gave me a prescribed path, but it helped me begin to recognize the doubt, fear, and shame that tainted my decisions.
I have had two great inspirations in my yoga practice. The first came when I started practicing with Katherine (who taught at the Hamilton YMCA), who introduced me to the practical physical benefits yoga nurtures. Then, when I began practicing Ashtanga Yoga under Katie McClelland, I realized yoga was a tool for self discovery, reflection, and willpower. The more I practiced the more obvious it became to me that I wanted to make yoga central in my life and help bring it to others.
I teach classes designed to balance physical and mental discipline with openness and ease, bringing these qualities together through mindful movement.
A lifelong athlete, Diane was brought to her first hot yoga class in order to rehabilitate a knee injury. It only took one class for her to realize the multiplicity of benefits to the mind, body and spirit provided by the practice of Asana. As a certified personal trainer, Diane advocates the complimentary effects of a regular yoga practice to athletes from all disciplines, and recommends its incorporation to her clients. Diane's journey towards the yogic path was by no means a straight one. Never feeling 'quite right' in the corporate world, Diane spent most of her 20's studying, she holds a B.A. in International Politics, a Diploma in Business-Marketing and minors in Philosophy and Religious Studies.
Yoga gave Diane the insight and inspiration necessary to leave the corporate world behind, where she worked as a marketing manager in the promotional industry and pursue work that she truly loves, as a trainer and yoga instructor. Diane travelled to Hawaii, where she completed the five week intensive portion of Moksha's 500 hour teacher certification program. Diane has since continued her exploration with the study of Anusara yoga, under Naime Jezzeny, Sue Elkind, Sianna Sherman, and John Friend himself, in Miami Florida. Diane is also certified to teach Restorative Yoga, having studied under Judith Lasater in California, and has been continuing her studies of Astanga and Yoga philosophy under Michael Stone. This year Diane has committed to wrapping her arms and mind around Power Vinyasa, studying under Seane Corn.
Diane is an alumni ambassador for Lululemon, as they both recognize and appreciate her heart-centered and joyful teaching style. Diane has gained a solid reputation throughout the GTA as a consummate professional, who is always 'raising the bar' for excellence in her field. Having made yoga her life's work, Diane really feels as though she has finally come home after years of searching, as yoga combines her two lifelong loves of physical fitness and the ongoing study of philosophy and spirituality.
